PATRICK PETTERSSON

Patrick Pettersson (Pittsburgh, Pa 1970) has a BFA from the University of Texas, at Austin, and an MFA from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
He received a national grant for emerging artists in Mexico (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes) in 2000 - 2001. In 2007, he was awarded Mexico’s most prestigious juried art prize at the Bienal de Monterrey FEMSA. In 2014, his work won an acquisition prize at the VI Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales de Tijuana.
His work has been exhibited in many of Mexico’s top public museums including Museo del Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, Centro de las Artes Parque Fundidora, Museo Tamayo de Arte Contemporáneo, and Biblioteca Nacional José Vasconcelos. Internationally he has held solo shows at the Embassy of Mexico in Germany (Berlin) and the Institute of Mexico in Spain (Madrid). His work has travelled to museum exhibitions in Spain, Russia, Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, and South Korea.
He has been invited as a guest artist at the Centro de Arte Contempóraneo La Curtiduría (Oaxaca, Mexico) and at the Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts (St. Etienne, France) where his work was exhibited in 2008.
His project, Flora Philosophica, was exhibited in several solo shows held at the Quetzalli Gallery (Oaxaca, Mexico, 2011), the Nina Menocal Gallery (Mexico City, 2012), Drexel Gallery (Monterrey, Mexico, 2012), and Jennifer Kostuik Gallery (Vancouver, B.C.). Syd Barret's First Trip, his latest project has been shown at the Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños, in Oaxaca Mexico.
He has been a recipient of a three-year National Artist Grant awarded by Mexico’s Ministry of Arts and Culture (FONCA - CONACULTA). He is based in Mexico City.
